Aurelia Eichhornia | Aesop Hosts Studio Jo Meesters during LDF | London 17 September - 25 September 2011
Aesop has a longstanding commitment to supporting the work of new and emerging designers. In this spirit, for the second time during the London Design Festival, Aesop will host the work of Studio Jo Meesters across two locations.
Studio Jo Meesters creates concepts and products with a focus on the use of innovative materials and the exploration of craftsmanship and production techniques. An underlying principle of sustainable practice informs all concept and product development and by integrating this with various aspects of craftsmanship, sophistication, and detailing, Studio Jo Meesters aims to imbue projects and products with an emotional value with a commitment to the creation and perception of a bond between object and user
The Aurelia Eichhornia is a series of lamps developed for the presentation of Leolux during the 50th Salone Internazionale del Mobile 2011. Inspired by water plants and jelly fish, the Aurelia Eichhornia is a series of knitted pendant lights combining glass and textiles. Using found fermentation bottles as a basis for the design the bottles are cut, polished and then sheathed in textile. The yarns have been developed in the Audax Textile Museum combining cotton and luminous filaments, which give the lamps a residual glowing effect after they are turned off. Using an advanced automatic knitting machine programme the glass lamp is covered in the textile from top to bottom resembling a plant ready to bloom.
Aesop Shoreditch & Aesop Notting Hill will display pieces from the Aurelia Eichhornia series from 15 to 29 of September.
